This accessibility statement applies to the Delivering for Scotland website.

This website is run by the Office of the Secretary of State for Scotland. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • the cookies icon does not reflow with the page and so can block important information when the page is zoomed in
  • the user cannot access the ‘analytical cookies’ slider on the cookies notice on the home page with a keyboard
  • after the user tabs from ‘reject all’ on the cookies notice, it is unclear where the user is as nothing receives focus nor is actionable
  • not all of our embedded videos currently include voice overs or fully accessible captions
  • the archive of stories content currently does not meet accessibility standards in its use of header styles

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons:

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

  • The cookies icon does not reflow with the page and so can block important information when the page is zoomed in. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.4.10 (reflow). This functionality is provided by a third party and an alternative solution is currently being researched. We aim to have this in place by the end of 2020.
  • The user cannot access the ‘analytical cookies’ slider on the cookies notice on the home page with a keyboard. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.1.1 (keyboard). This functionality is provided by a third party and an alternative solution is currently being researched. We aim to have this in place by the end of 2020.
  • After the user tabs from ‘reject all’ on the cookies notice, it is unclear where the user is as nothing receives focus nor is actionable. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.1.1 (keyboard). This functionality is provided by a third party and an alternative solution is currently being researched. We aim to have this in place by the end of 2020.
  • Not all of our embedded videos currently include voice overs or fully accessible captions. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.1.1 (captions – prerecorded). We are working to amend these as resources permit, and aim to do so by the by the end of March 2021.
  • The Stories pages are hosted on a third party platform (Shorthand) and currently do not meet accessibility standards in their use of header styles. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.6 (headings and labels). We are unable to control how the Shorthand platform chooses to format some text and we are looking at what changes we are able to make to improve the accessibility of this content.

This statement was prepared on 17 September 2020. It was last reviewed on 17 September 2020.

This website was last tested on 17 September 2020. The test was carried out by the Government Communication Service.

The approach we took was to test every non-standard page (namely the homepage, the section homepages and all pages containing forms or tables) and then a sample of 2 further random pages from each section.
